LEGO Technic is the mechanical line: you assemble beams with holes, axles and gears rather than stacked bricks. The result moves — steering that turns, pistons going up and down — and that is what makes it popular, in Algeria as elsewhere. It is also what makes it puzzling the first time.
What changes compared with a classic box
Pieces join with pins and axles, often sideways, and the instructions ask you to count holes carefully. An early mistake sometimes shows up twenty steps later, when a wheel refuses to turn. The most useful tip: every time you fit a gear, turn the axle with a finger to check that everything moves.
Step one: a small pull-back vehicle
Small models, like the pull-back Formula 1 car, are built in one sitting. Pull the car back, let go, and off it goes: the reward is instant, and you have already handled axles and pins.
Step two: visible mechanics
Next come mid-size models where you build the steering or the suspension yourself. An off-roader like the Ford Bronco shows what a chassis is: building it, you understand why the front wheels turn together.
Step three: large display models
The large Technic cars marked “18+” are projects over several evenings, with a detailed gearbox and engine. They are for an adult or a teenager who has already built intermediate models.
What if the child does not like cars?
Technic is not only vehicles. The Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit model uses gears to spin the Earth and move the Moon around it: a way to show that a mechanism can explain something.
