Hot Wheels: the 1:64 scale, simply explained

On Hot Wheels packaging you often read “1:64”. It is not a model reference: it is a scale, and it explains why so many children collect them.
What 1:64 means
A 1:64 scale means the miniature is sixty-four times smaller than the real car. A saloon about four and a half metres long becomes a toy the size of a finger. In practice the scale is approximate: the manufacturer adjusts each model a little so it fits the same packaging and runs on the same tracks.
Why it is practical
All cars at this scale are roughly the same size: they store together, compare, get swapped between children and run on the same tracks. It is also what makes them an easy small gift: you can give one or a whole fleet.
A single car or a pack?
A single car makes a small visiting gift; a pack of ten or twenty assorted cars, which is what we offer, is a main gift, ideal for siblings or to start a collection. In an assorted pack, the models vary from box to box: you discover what is inside when you open it.
For what age?
Hot Wheels cars are small objects: the minimum age printed on the packaging and its warnings apply, and a younger child should not play with them unsupervised. Every product page shows the box age.
